Pant-y-Saer

The Neolithic Dolmen Pant-y-Saer is located on a hill west of Benllech in Llanfair Mathafarn Eithaf on the island of Anglesey in Wales .

The chamber of the protected facility of an indeterminable type has collapsed and the massive capstone about 3.0 × 3.0 m and a thickness of 0.5 m lies at one end on the floor. The other end is supported by two upright stones. These have rounded tops that could have contributed to the capstone slipping off. The base of the chamber was cut into the bedrock. The chamber was originally covered with a cairn of which traces have been preserved.

The excavations have shown that the cairn was enclosed by a wall at the front and possibly extended at the rear. There was a forecourt adjacent to the north upright stone and the placement of a vessel on the other side suggests that this was the front of the structure.

During an examination of the chamber in 1875, the remains of two people were found. Investigations in 1912 and 1933 showed that the chamber had a lower level on which the remains of 54 people of both sexes and all ages, including nine newborns, were found. The bodies were probably brought in successively.

The Glyn Goosehouse and Chamber Tomb are nearby .
