The Río Úrbel is an approx. 55 km long tributary of the Río Arlanzón in the province of Burgos in northern Spain .
course
The Río Úrbel rises a few kilometers west of the hamlet of Fuente Úrbel , which belongs to the municipality of Basconcillos del Tozo, on the south side of the Cantabrian Mountains at an altitude of approx. 965 m . Its course leads first in south-easterly, later then almost constantly in southern directions. At Frandovínez it flows into the Río Arlanzón.
Tributaries and reservoirs
Except for a few streams (arroyos) , the Río Úrbel has no tributaries; it is not jammed. In the Middle Ages and early modern times there were numerous water mills on its banks .

Attractions
The mountainous and wooded landscape on the upper reaches of the Río Úrbel and the Romanesque church of Santa María la Mayor in the hamlet of Fuente Úrbel are worth seeing . Further south the churches were rebuilt in the Gothic style, sometimes the Romanesque apse of the respective church is still preserved. In the village Rabé de las Calzadas crossing St. James (Camino de Santiago) the river.
