Alto del Perdón
The Alto del Perdón is the passage of the Camino de Santiago French Way , through the Sierra del Perdón in the Autonomous Community of Navarre .
The mountain range is near Pamplona , in German its name means mountain of purification .
This place is a place of devotion to Mary . Historical reports speak of pilgrimages from all over Navarre to the statue of Nuestra Señora del Perdón (Our Lady of Perdón) and of annual visits by the figure to the Trinity Basilica in Arre near Villava .
Two hermitages are documented for the year 1816: that of the Virgin and the Christophorus hermitage, which was inhabited by a hermit who looked after needy pilgrims .
Today a small stone shrine for the Virgin stands opposite the iron sculpture of a pilgrimage, which was donated by the Navarre hydroelectric and wind turbine company, which operates the wind turbines on the Sierra del Perdón. The Spanish inscription means in German: Where the path of the stars meets the path of the wind .
There is a legend about the Fuente de Reniega (Source of Turning) just before the Alto del Perdón : A thirsty pilgrim comes up the mountain from Pamplona. The devil appears to him in pilgrim garb and offers him water if he renounces his faith. The pilgrim is said to have been ready to face death when Santiago appears and leads him to the source mentioned.
The spring basin was renewed in the early 1990s in the form of a scallop shell, but broke off again soon afterwards due to the weather. In summer the spring usually has no water.
