Barbadelo or Santiago de Barbadelo is a place on the edge of the Camino de Santiago . It is located in the province of Lugo in the autonomous community of Galicia in Spain , administratively it is dependent on Sarria .

history

At the beginning of the 11th century, Barbadelo was a double monastery dependent on Samos . After the disamortization in Spain, it turned into a civil place and parish.

Iglesia de Santiago en Barbadelo

With the Romanesque Church of St. James ( Igrexa de Santiago de Barbadelo ), Barbadelo has a sight of national value. It was built at the end of the 12th century. The floor plan is rectangular, the masonry made of hewn granite stones. The main portal has two smooth archivolts that are delimited from the outside with a chessboard frieze and rest on pillars decorated with human and animal motifs. Another door is adorned with a scallop shell, its pillars with plant motifs. At the northeast corner a tower rises above a square base. The chancel is supported on granite columns, the retable is designed in the Baroque style.

Within the municipality are the remains of a fortified Celtiberian village, the Castro das Paredes .
