Calzadilla de la Cueza is a place on the Camino de Santiago in the province of Palencia in the autonomous community of Castile and León , administratively it is dependent on Cervatos de la Cueza .
history
The name of the place refers to the Way of St. James (Calzadilla = diminutive of Calzada, footpath) and the Cueza river. Traces of a Roman settlement have been found in the place, which Bravo Lozano suspects to be connected with a Roman villa excavated in Quintanilla de la Cueza . On the outskirts you can still see the remains of the former monastery of Santa Maria de las Tiendas in some decaying adobe buildings, which was also mentioned in travelogues under the name "Hospice des Grand Cavalier". The monastery was a large abbey and hospice of the Order of the Knights of Santiago , its current condition belies its former size.
