Campos is a municipality on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . The inland town of the same name is the administrative seat of the municipality in the south of the island in the region ( comarca ) Migjorn .

The municipality of Campos had a population of 10,862 registered residents as of January 1, 2019. This is 73 inhabitants per km². In 2006 the proportion of foreigners in the municipality was 16.2% (1,342), the proportion of German residents was 5.0% (416). The main economic factors are agriculture, livestock and cheese making.

Geographical location

The rather flat municipality of Campos is located on the south coast of Mallorca, on a stretch of coast that extends from Sa Ràpita in the west to ses Arenes behind the long sandy beach of Es Trenc in the southeast. The main town of the same name is located about nine kilometers from the coast on the road connecting Palma to the holiday areas on the east coast ( Cala d'Or , Cala Figuera ). The distance from Campos to Palma is approx. 35 kilometers.

Neighboring communities

To the east, the municipalities of Felanitx , Santanyí and Ses Salines border the municipality of Campos. Like the municipality of Llucmajor to the west and Campos itself, they belong to the Migjorn region . To the north, the Plà de Mallorca region borders with the municipality of Porreres on the area of ​​Campos.

Personalities

The Christian missionary Bartomeu Sala i Sala (1821–1895) and the sailor Antoni Nicolau i Adrover (* 1962), who set out to sail around the world from here in 1996 , were born in Campos . The biologist and biochemist Pere Puigserver i Burguera (* 1965) and the dart player Toni Alcinas (* 1979) also come from Campos.
