Sa Pobla (Spanish La Puebla ) is one of the 53 communities on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca .
Population and economy
It has 13,475 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019), 11,912 of whom live in the town of the same name. In 2006 the proportion of foreigners in the municipality was 19.6% (2,375), the proportion of German residents was 0.6% (76). The main source of income is the agricultural use of the surrounding fertile and water-rich soils, especially for growing potatoes .
Infrastructure
In terms of urban planning, Sa Pobla stands out for its dense, mostly multi-storey block development along almost exclusively streets that meet at right angles, which is surrounded by an outer ring road , which roughly resembles a square with rounded corners. While the area inside the ring road is almost completely built-up, there are almost no buildings outside the ring.
Sa Pobla is connected to the Mallorcan railway network with a branch line . The original railway line to the city center, which had existed since 1878, was closed in 1981, but was revived 19 years later with a terminus on the outskirts and electrified in October 2018.
Two well-developed country roads connect Sa Pobla with the Ma-13 motorway, which is just under two kilometers away.
