Vilafranca de Bonany is a municipality on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It has 3380 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019), of whom 2654 lived in the town of the same name in 2008. In 2006 the proportion of foreigners in the municipality was 10.3% (264), the proportion of German residents 0.7% (17).
As the last settlement on the main road before Manacor, which is about ten kilometers away, Vilafranca de Bonany was founded in the 17th century and has hardly any sights. Vilafranca de Bonany is considered a trading center for the fruit growers of Mallorca. Numerous fruit stands are located directly on the main street with juicy fruits and fresh vegetables, including the small tomatoes on the branch (tomatiques de ramellet), hot peppers and apricots. However, Vilafranca is famous for its honey-sweet melons.
The place is surrounded by fertile fields and the population lived mainly from agriculture, but today only very few of the families work in this trade. Some of the residents work in the production or sales of the brickworks on the outskirts towards Manacor and others run businesses or work in the construction industry. Vilafranca is not known for mass tourism, and every guest can still enjoy his Cafe con Leche among the Mallorcans in one of the numerous bars on the main street .
