Fornalutx [ foɾnəˈluʧ ] is a municipality in the northwest of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It has 660 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019). The main town of the same name had 483 inhabitants in 2008. In 2006 the proportion of foreigners was 22.5% (161), the proportion of German residents 5.9% (42). Fornalutx is located northeast of Sóller in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range . The spruced up place, which has already received two beauty awards, is a popular destination.
Festivals
Every year around September 8th, at the time of the Dia Novitat de la Mare de Deu , the Correbou festival is still celebrated in Fornalutx, probably the only place on Mallorca . As with similar festivals, this is a bull sacrifice that extends into the early days . A young woman adorns a bull with a wreath of flowers and then drives it through the town. In the end it is slaughtered and the meat is divided among the donors of the bull. For several years now, various animal welfare organizations have been protesting against this old custom at the same time.
