Antoni Nicolau i Adrover

Antoni Nicolau i Adrover (* 1962 in Campos ) is a Spanish sailor.

Life

He was born on the Spanish Mediterranean island of Mallorca and began sailing at the age of twelve .

After five years of preparation, he started a circumnavigation of the world on January 17, 1996 as a solo sailor . To do this, he had converted and equipped his 10.54 meter long regatta sailor Encis accordingly. By the time the voyage began, he had already sailed 13,000 nautical miles . The circumnavigation started in the marina of Sa Ràpita -Campos and led via Gibraltar , Canary Islands , Caribbean , Venezuela , Panama , Galapagos Islands , Marquesas , Tuamotu Archipelago , Fiji , Vanuatu , Australia , Bali , Singapore , Malaysia , Thailand , Sri Lanka , Djibouti , Sudan , Egypt , Greece , Sicily , Sardinia back to the starting point Sa Ràpita on Mallorca. He reached the destination after 25,800 nautical miles on May 24, 1997.

After a five-day storm, the boat had an extremely strong list on the Atlantic. At the Tuamotu Islands he had lost the rudder, in the Strait of Torres, north of Australia, he suffered several fainting spells . Other problems included water ingress in Australia, bureaucratic problems in Indonesia and Phuket, and hallucinations in the Red Sea .

He is married and has a daughter born in 1994.
