Las Herrerías , partly without articles or (with local reference) Las Herrerías de Valcarce , is a place on the Camino de Santiago in the province of León in the autonomous community of Castile-León , administratively it is dependent on Vega de Valcarce .
The place name refers to the iron production that dates back to the 17th century in the place. A large building can be visited in which iron was smelted until the beginning of the 20th century.
Archaeological evidence and documents speak loudly Bravo Lozano that it is in Las Herrerías to that of Aimeric Picaud mentioned Villaus and around the Salvaterra Domenico Laffis concerns.
At the western end of the village is the Hospital Inglés (the English pilgrim hospice ) with the remains of its church and a pilgrims cemetery. It is used by Pope Alexander III. mentioned in a bull from 1178 and possibly goes back to the pilgrimage intentions of the English king Heinrich II .
