Manjarín is a very small, almost deserted and dilapidated place on the Camino de Santiago in the province of León in the Autonomous Community of Castile and León .
The first written mention of Manjarín dates back to 1180 : King Fernando of León grants privileges to the owner of the pilgrims' hospice between Manjarín and El Acebo , Doña Maria Joanez , in a document . This hospice was later moved directly to Manjarín and is mentioned again in the 17th century. The population in Manjarin was never particularly high: 1561: 4 households, 1587 and 1597: 5 households. At the beginning of the 19th century, the place lost its last inhabitants and fell into disrepair. The local parish church was dedicated to Saint Martin .
Tomás, who sees himself in the succession of the Knights Templar , founded a simple pilgrimage hostel in Manjarín in the 1990s , which is flagged with the flag of the Knights Templar and is one of the very special accommodations along the Camino de Santiago.
In the direction of Ponferrada a long and winding descent with a very steep gradient begins a few kilometers behind the village, which only ends in Molinaseca . Cycle pilgrims are called on to be particularly careful there.
