Molinaseca is a municipality on the Camino de Santiago in the province of León in the autonomous region of Castile and León . The Río Meruelo flows through the village .
For the Roman era, it is believed that a rest house called a mansio and a horse changing point on the Braga - Astorga highway was located here . The Romanesque bridge over the Meruelo is also interpreted as an indication of the historical importance of Molinaseca as a transit point, as is the layout of the place along a street, Calle Real , on which the pilgrims ' hospice was also located and which was formerly called Calle de los Peregrinos, i.e., pilgrims' street .
Below the bridge there is a well-kept swimming area that is open to the public and refreshes many pilgrims and locals.
