Burguete , Auritz in Basque , is a place on the Camino de Santiago in the Basque- speaking part of the autonomous community of Navarre .

Burguete emerged as the market town belonging to Roncesvalles and was also mentioned under the name uilla Roscidauallis / villa Roscidavallis .

The place is a street village , characterized by traditional Basque farmhouses. A Romanesque footbridge with an arch leads over the Urrobi . The Church of San Nicolás de Bari has taken over the dedication and name as well as the baroque portal from its predecessor . The patron saint of the village is San Nicolas , but the village festival is celebrated in honor of the apostle John .

Ernest Hemingway mentions Burguete in his novel Fiesta .
