The phylloxera crisis in viticulture, the increasing mechanization of agriculture , the abandonment of small farms and the resulting lack of jobs have led to a significant decline in the number of residents since the 1950s.

economy

In the first place in the economic life of the community traditionally ranks agriculture and especially cattle breeding (sheep, goats, cows). In the past, wheat, barley, wine and vegetables were also cultivated in protected locations; later potatoes were added. Today holiday apartments (casas rurales) are also rented out.

history

Adoration of the Magi (detail from the altar)

Celtiberian , Roman , Visigoth and even Islamic-Moorish traces have not yet been discovered in the municipality. A military recapture ( reconquista ) was probably not necessary. In the 10th or 11th century the square was repopulated as part of the repopulation policy of the Navarres kings ( repoblación ) ; A castle (castillo) was built on a rock high above the town . In 1076, the Leonese King Alfonso VI united . his territory with the Kingdom of Castile and Galicia and extended his feelers to Navarre. From then on, the western border of Navarre was fought over for several hundred years; this situation only gradually relaxed after 1512, in which the Catholic King Ferdinand II of Aragón conquered the part of Navarre south of the Pyrenees .
