Yesa is a municipality in the autonomous community of Navarre , 46 km southeast of the capital Pamplona .

Local situation

The municipality lies at the foot of the Sierra de Leyre ridge and in parts of the municipality reaches heights of over 1,000 m above sea level. NN . The highest point is Mount Arangoiti at 1,375 m. Two kilometers from the village is the Yesa dam named after him with 450 million m³ storage capacity. The villages of Javier , Liédana and Sangüesa are in the immediate vicinity.

Culture

The Cistercian monastery of San Salvador de Leyre is located in the municipality .

The ruins of a bridge over the Aragón River from the 12th century still have some Roman parts on the struts . The bridge is associated with a legendary battle that the inhabitants of the Roncal Valley are said to have fought against the Moorish army during the Reconquista .
