Al Porcino
Al Porcino (born May 14, 1925 in New York City , † December 31, 2013 in Munich ) was an American jazz trumpeter and band leader .
Life
Porcino has worked with musicians such as Louis Prima , Tommy Dorsey , Jerry Wald , Georgie Auld , Gene Krupa (1946–47), Chubby Jackson and Stan Kenton (1947–48 and 1954–55) since the mid-1940s . Three times (1946, 1949-50 and 1954) he was a member of Woody Herman's bands . He also worked with Pete Rugolo , Count Basie , Elliot Lawrence and Charlie Barnet in the 1950s .
In 1957 he went to Los Angeles , where he mainly worked as a studio musician (including for Frank Sinatra ), but also (1959-62) was a member of the Terry Gibbs Dream Band . In 1968 he appeared with Buddy Rich , 1969-70 he was a member of the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra . Since the mid-1970s he has also directed his own bands; since 1977 he lived in Munich. He performed regularly with his big band in the Unterfahrt jazz club .
