The Trappist Zenarruza since 1996 a Spanish monastery of Trappist monks in Zenarruza, east of Amorebieta-Etxano , Biscay , Roman Catholic Diocese of Bilbao .

history

From 1379 to the 19th century there was a collegiate monastery in Zenarruza (on the Way of St. James ) . Then the church fell into disrepair, but was classified as a Basque National Monument in 1948 and restored from 1980. Monks of the monastery La Oliva (Navarra) started a pre-foundation of the monastery in 1988, which was converted into an official foundation in 1996 and elevated to a priory in 2008 .
