Ionela Târlea

Ionela Târlea , also Tîrlea , during her marriage Târlea-Manolache , (born February 9, 1976 in Horezu , Vâlcea district ) is a former Romanian athlete .

Career

Ionela Târlea was discovered in 1989 by the physical education teacher Viorica Enescu, who trained her until 2002. From 2002 to 2009 the former heptathlete Liliana Năstase was her trainer. After attending the sports high school Mircea cel Bătrân in Râmnicu Vâlcea , she continued her career at CS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea .

At the Junior World Championships in 1992 in Seoul , she won gold in the 4-by-400-meter relay and bronze in the 400-meter run . Two years later she won the title in the 400-meter hurdles and bronze with the 4-by-400-meter relay at the Junior World Championships in Lisbon in 1994 . Previously, she had won the 200-meter run at the European Summer Youth Olympic Days in 1993 .

She was two-time European champion over 400 meter hurdles ( 1998 and 2002 ) and took part in the Olympic Games four times. She reached the final over 400 meter hurdles at the 1996 Olympic Games and 2000 Olympic Games and finished 7th and 6th respectively. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens she won the silver medal in the 400 meter hurdles behind the Greek Fani Chalkia and ahead of the Ukrainian Tetiana Tereschchuk-Antipowa and took sixth place with the 4 x 400 meter relay . When she last participated in the Olympics in 2008 , she was eliminated in the quarter-finals over 200 meters.

Ionela Târlea was an extremely competitive athlete who competed in up to four disciplines in the European Athletics Cup in two days. Her repertoire included 100 meters , 200 meters , 400 meters , 400 meters hurdles and both relays. Due to numerous injuries, she ended her active career in the spring of 2009. She is 1.69 m tall and had a competition weight of 54 kg. Since the end of her career, she has been working in the marketing department of the National Olympic Committee in Romania .

The trained sports teacher was married to Daniel Manolache, a Canadian of Romanian origin, from 2004 to 2007. On January 30, 2013, she became the mother of a daughter.
