Eilidh Doyle (* February 20, 1987 in Perth (Scotland) as Eilidh Child ) is a British hurdler who specializes in the 400-meter distance and is particularly successful with the British 4-by-400-meter relay .

Athletic career

Eilidh Doyle gained her first international experience at the U23 European Championships 2007 in Debrecen , where she finished fifth in 57.11 seconds. Two years later she won the silver medal behind her compatriot Perri Shakes-Drayton at the U23 European Championships in Kaunas in 55.32 seconds . So she qualified for the World Championships in Berlin , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 56.21 seconds. In 2010 she was eighth in 55.51 s at the European Championships in Barcelona . Then she won the silver medal for Scotland starting in 55.62 s at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi behind the Nigerian Muizat Ajoke Odumosu . In addition, she finished fifth with the relay in 3: 30.91 minutes. The following year she reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea , in which she was eliminated with 55.89 s. In 2012 she was fourth at the European Championships in Helsinki with the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 26.20 min. It took part in the Olympic Games in London , where they finished with 56.03 s in the semifinals . In addition, it was used in the season in advance, which later came fourth in the final.

In March 2013 she won the silver medal in the 400-meter run behind Shakes-Drayton in 51.45 s at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, and the gold medal with the relay in 3: 27.56 min. She qualified again for the World Championships in Moscow and was there with 54.86 s fifth in the hurdles and won the silver medal in 3: 22.61 min after the team from Russia had been disqualified for a doping offense. Then she won the silver medal behind the Jamaican Kaliese Spencer at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 55.02 s . In August she won the European Championships in Zurich in 54.48 s in the hurdles and won the bronze medal behind France and the Ukraine in 3: 23.34 min. She then came second in 54.42 s at the 2014 Athletics Continental Cup in Marrakech . At the IAAF World Relays 2015 , the British team finished third in 3: 26.38 minutes. She took part in the World Championships in Beijing again in the summer and finished sixth there with 54.78 s in the final . In addition, she won the bronze medal behind the teams from Jamaica and the United States in the season in 3: 23.62 minutes in the final . The following year she won the gold medal at the European Championships in Amsterdam with Emily Diamond , Anyika Onuora , Doyle and Seren Bundy-Davies in 3: 25.05 min. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro she was eighth in the final in 54.61 s and won the bronze medal in the relay in 3: 25.88 min in the final , again behind the teams from the USA and Jamaica.

At the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in 2017 , Doyle was surprisingly eliminated in the semifinals with 52.81 seconds, as she was considered one of the medal candidates. With the British relay she secured the silver medal behind the Polish women in 3: 31.05 min. She then finished fourth in the IAAF World Relays in 3: 28.72 minutes. In the summer she was in the Heimwelmeisterschaften in London with 55.71 s in the final eighth and won with the relay in 3: 25.00 min the silver medal behind the United States. In 2018, she won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 51.60 seconds behind the two Americans Courtney Okolo and Shakima Wimbley . It was the third participation in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where she again won the silver medal behind Janieve Russell from Jamaica in 54.80 s . With the Scottish team she came in sixth in 3: 29.18 minutes. In August, she won the bronze medal with the relay at the European Championships in Berlin in 3: 27.40 minutes and finished eighth in the hurdles after 56.23 seconds in the final. The following year she won the silver medal behind Poland at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow in 3: 29.55 minutes and was eliminated in the semifinals over 400 meters with 53.28 seconds.

Doyle was British champion in the 400 meter hurdles from 2014 to 2017 and also indoor champion over 400 meters in 2013, 2017 and 2018.

Personal

In 2015 she married the 400-meter runner Bryan Doyle , who is also her coach, and has since started under the name Eilidh Doyle . She completed a sports degree at the University of Edinburgh .
