Yuliya Vladimirovna Sotnikova ( Russian Юлия Владимировна Сотникова , English transcription Yuliya Vladimirovna Sotnikova ; born November 18, 1970 in Volgograd ) is a former Russian sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter run .

She achieved her best results with the Russian 4 x 400 meter relay . She won the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in 1995 and the gold medal at the 2001 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Lisbon with the relay .

Her most important achievement was winning the bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . In the relay she reached the goal in 3: 23.46 minutes behind the teams of the United States and Jamaica, together with Svetlana Goncharenko , Olga Kotlyarova and Irina Priwalova . Since the victorious US team was later disqualified for doping its runner Marion Jones , there is a possibility that the Russian team will move up one rank in the ranking.
