Małgorzata Hołub-Kowalik (pronunciation mawɡɔˈʐata ˈxɔwup ; born October 30, 1992 in Koszalin as Małgorzata Hołub ) is a Polish sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Małgorzata Hołub gained her first international experience at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Moncton , Canada , where she finished eighth in the final with the Polish 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 42.70 min. Her greatest success in the junior sector was winning the silver medal at the European Junior Championships 2011 in Tallinn , which she won together with Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz , Magdalena Gorzkowska and Justyna Święty . In 2013 Hołub finished fourth in the 400-meter run at the U23 European Championships in Tampere in a personal best of 52.28 s. The Polish relay was even more successful. Magdalena Gorzkowska, Małgorzata Hołub, Agnieszka Karczmarczyk and Justyna Święty were U23 European champions ahead of Romania and France. At the World Championships for active athletes in Moscow in the same year , the relay did not make it to the finals.

The year 2014 began with the World Indoor Championships in her home country in Sopot . Here she was eliminated in the first lap over 400 meters with 53.07 s. With the season she came in fifth place with Ewelina Ptak , Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz and Justyna Święty. Then she took part with the relay in the World Relays in the Bahamas , in which they were also fifth in 3: 27.37 min. Also at the European Championships in Zurich , the Polish women (Małgorzata Hołub, Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz, Joanna Linkiewicz , Justyna Święty) finished fifth and in the individual competition they finished fifth with 51.84 seconds. In 2015 the relay team with the line-up Joanna Linkiewicz, Małgorzata Hołub, Monika Szczęsna and Justyna Święty won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in Prague . In addition, she was eliminated in the individual competition over 400 meters with 53.31 s in the preliminary round. They then finished fifth again at the World Relays . In the summer, the same formation won gold at the Summer Universiade in Gwangju and in the individual competition they won the silver medal in 51.93 seconds behind the South African Justine Palframan . At the World Championships in Beijing , however, the Polish women did not reach the final . She also retired over 400 meters with a new personal best of 51.74 s on the first lap .

The year 2016 also began successfully. At the World Indoor Championships in Portland , Ewelina Ptak, Małgorzata Hołub, Magdalena Gorzkowska and Justyna Święty were runner-up behind the Americans. In the individual, she was eliminated in the semifinals with 52.73 s. She then qualified again for the European Championships in Amsterdam , where she took fifth place over 400 meters with 51.89 s and missed winning a medal in the Polish relay in 3: 27.60 min. This was followed by participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she reached the semi-finals over 400 meters and was eliminated there with 51.93 s. With the season she reached the finals and finished seventh in 3: 27.28 minutes. At the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in 2017 , Hołub finished sixth over 400 meters in 54.29 s and won the gold medal with the Polish relay in 3: 29.94 minutes ahead of the United Kingdom and Ukraine. The Polish team won the silver medal for the first time at the World Relays . She also qualified for the World Championships in London and was eliminated there in the individual competition with 52.26 s in the preliminary round . With the Polish relay she won the bronze medal in 3: 25.41 minutes behind the relays from the USA and the United Kingdom . Two weeks later she won the gold medal again with the Polish team at the World Student Games in Taipei with 3: 26.75 minutes. She also won the individual competition over 400 meters in 51.76 s.

In 2018 she took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where she won the silver medal behind the US team in 3: 26.09 minutes with the Polish relay team. At the European Championships in Berlin in early August, Hołub-Kowalik was eliminated with 51.4 s in the semifinals . With the Polish 4 x 400 meter relay, she won the gold medal in 3: 26.59 min as a starting runner in the line-up of Hołub-Kowalik, Baumgart-Witan, Wyciszkiewicz and Święty-Ersetic, ahead of France and the United Kingdom. In the following year she defended the title at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow with the Polish relay in 3: 28.77 minutes; in the individual competition she did not start. In May she won the World Relays in Yokohama in 3: 27.49 minutes and was fifth with the mixed relay in 3: 20.65 minutes. Thus, the relay qualified once again for the World Championships in Doha and won the silver medal behind the United States with Baumgart-Witan, Wyciszkiewicz and Święty-Ersetic with a new national record of 3: 21.89 minutes. In addition, it was used in the mixed season in advance. Thereupon she reached the final at the military world games in Wuhan over 400 meters and took fourth place there in 52.42 s and won the relay in 3: 27.84 min.

In 2014 and 2018, Hołub-Kowalik became Polish champion in the 400-meter run. She was a student at the Technical University in Koszalin . After her wedding in 2017, she started under the double name Hołub-Kowalik in 2018 .
