Life

Claudia Grunwald at the ISTAF 2008

The 400-meter runner was fourth in the European Junior Championships in 2001 and second in the relay. In 2002 she became German Junior Champion, and in 2003 she was sixth of the U-23 European Championships in the individual competition and won bronze with the relay.

At the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki she finished sixth with the German 4 x 400 meter relay , and fifth at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg . At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 she was sixth after the doping disqualification of the Russians and Belarusians with the relay and at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin she reached fifth with her relay colleagues. At the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona she won silver as the final runner in the German 4 x 400 meter relay together with Esther Cremer , Janin Lindenberg and Fabienne Kohlmann . As the Russian season of this European Championship was later disqualified for doping, the German runners were subsequently declared European champions.

In 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 she became German champion in the 400-meter run, in 2006, 2007 and 2009 she was also champion in the hall. With her best time of 51.65 s, however, she was not able to qualify for international events at world level in individual, and the semi-finals were also the final destination at the 2006 European Championships. In 2009 she therefore tried to switch to the 800-meter course, but was only able to win a bronze medal at the German championships; she did not succeed in meeting the standards for the world championships. However, together with Elina and Diana Sujew, she became German champion in 2010 with the 3 x 800 meter relay. In 2012 she ended her sports career.

Claudia Grunwald started for the sports club SC Potsdam and trained with Frank Möller . With a height of 1.71 m, she had a competition weight of 62 kg. During her active time she was a full-time sports soldier. In the 2009/2010 winter semester she started a distance learning course in the sports management department. She has been married since September 2011.
