Sabine Busch (born November 21, 1962 in Erfurt ) is a former German athlete who started for the GDR until 1990 . She became world champion three times - at the World Athletics Championships in 1983 and 1987 with the GDR's 4 x 400 meter relay and in 1987 in the 400 meter hurdles .

Life

She was fourth in the 400-meter run at the 1982 European Championships and - in a world record time - European champion with the 4-by-400-meter relay. The following year the first world championships were held, where she won with the GDR relay. The 400 meter hurdles were included in the Olympic program for the first time in 1984, but could not start there due to the boycott of the games by the GDR. In September 1985, she set a world record in the 400 meter hurdles (53.55 s). On the flat course, she became European indoor champion in 1985 and 1986. At the European Championships in 1986 she won silver over the hurdles and gold in the 4 x 400 meter relay.

In 1987 she became indoor world champion in the 400-meter run. In the summer she set a GDR record over the hurdles in 53.24 seconds . At the World Championships in Rome, she won gold over the hurdles and with the GDR relay. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 she was third in the 4 x 400 meter relay and fourth in the hurdles. At the 1991 World Championships , she was eliminated in the intermediate run of the hurdles course.

Sabine Busch started for the SC Turbine Erfurt and trained with Eberhard König . During her competition time she was 1.80 m tall and weighed 66 kg. In the documents on state doping in the GDR that became public after the fall of the Wall , the name of Busch was also found among the doped athletes.

Private

After marriage, Sabine Ascui now lives in Bavaria with her husband and two sons.
