Nicola Sanders (born June 23, 1982 in High Wycombe ) is a British athlete .

Life

Nicola Sanders was already quite successful in the junior division. In the 400-meter hurdles she won bronze at the 1999 European Junior Championships and came fourth at the 1999 World Youth Championships. In 2000 she won the Commonwealth Youth title and finished fifth at the Junior World Championships.

In 2005 she became champion of the British Association AAA on the long hurdles course. At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 , she was eliminated on the hurdles course in the semifinals. She was a member of the British 4-by-400-meter relay , which won bronze in the line-up of Lee McConnell , Donna Fraser , Nicola Sanders and Christine Ohuruogu in 3: 24.44 minutes behind the relays from Russia and Jamaica.

In March 2006 at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne , Sanders finished fourth for England in the 400-meter hurdles run in 55.32 seconds. The English four-by-four hundred meter relay was disqualified after finishing first. After the 400 Meters to the AAA title had won, she won at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg in the 400-meter dash 6th in 50.87 seconds. With the British season she was fourth.

She celebrated her greatest success so far at the 2007 European Indoor Championships in Birmingham. With 50.02 seconds she won gold and ran the fifth fastest time ever achieved in the hall. With the British relay she won bronze. In the semi-finals at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka , she improved her personal best to 49.77 seconds. In the final, she increased this to 49.65 seconds and won silver behind her compatriot Christine Ohuruogu . With the 4 x 400 meter relay, she won bronze with a new national record behind the USA and Jamaica.

At the 2008 Olympic Games Sanders was fifth with the season and fourth at the 2009 World Championships . The British women won bronze at the 2010 European Championships and fourth at the World Championships the following year. In 2012 Sanders became indoor world champion with the relay and reached fourth place at the European Championships .

Nicole Sanders is 1.71 m and weighs 59 kg.
