Peirresha Alexandra Shakes-Drayton (born December 21, 1988 in London ) is a British hurdler who specializes in the 400 meter distance .
Athletic career
Perri Shakes-Drayton gained her first international experience at the Junior World Championships in Beijing in 2006 , where she finished eighth in 59.37 seconds. The following year she won the silver medal behind the German Fabienne Kohlmann at the European Junior Championships in Hengelo in a new British junior record of 56.46 seconds . In 2009 she won the U23 European Championships in Kaunas in 55.26 s and thus qualified for the World Championships in Berlin , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 57.57 s. In 2010 she reached fourth place at the World Indoor Championships in Doha with the British 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 30.29 minutes. Shakes-Drayton achieved his final international breakthrough at the European Championships in Barcelona at the end of July. In a new personal best of 54.18 s she took the bronze medal in the hurdles behind the Russian Natalja Antjuch and Vanja Stambolowa from Bulgaria. With the British relay she originally came in third place in 3: 24.32 minutes, but later moved up to silver because the Russian team was disqualified for doping.
At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu , South Korea , she originally took fourth place with the British 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 23.63 min, but this time moved up to bronze. In the 400-meter hurdles she reached the semifinals, in which she was eliminated with 55.07 s. In 2012 she won the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul with Shana Cox , Nicola Sanders , Christine Ohuruogu and Shakes-Drayton in 3: 28.76 minutes ahead of the United States and Russia. In addition, she qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in London , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 55.19 s . After a three-year break from competition, Shakes-Drayton returned to the athletics stage in 2016 and contributed to winning the silver medal of the British team at the World Championships in London through her use in the preliminary stages in the 4 x 400 meter relay. In 2018 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and came fourth in the English season in 3: 27.21 minutes.
In 2008 and 2010, as well as in 2012 and 2013, Shakes-Drayton was British champion in the 400-meter hurdles. She graduated from Brunel University in London with a degree in sports science . In 2018 she was a participant in the tenth season of Dancing on Ice .
