Petra Schersing
Petra Schersing (* 18th July 1965 in Quedlinburg as Petra Müller ) is a former German sprinter and Olympic silver medalist who for the DDR started. She won eight medals in international competitions in the 400-meter run and with the 4-by-400-meter relay .
At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 she won the silver medal over 400 meters between Olha Bryshina and Olga Nasarowa (both URS). In the 4 x 400 meter relay she won the bronze medal (3: 18.29 min, together with Dagmar Neubauer , Kirsten Emmelmann and Sabine Busch ). For these successes she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.

- 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart: 3rd place in the 400-meter run (49.88 s); 1st place with the 4 x 400 meter relay (3: 16.87 min, together with Kirsten Emmelmann , Sabine Busch and Marita Koch ).
- World Championships 1987 in Rome: 2nd place in the 400-meter run; 1st place with the 4 x 400 meter relay (3: 18.63 min, together with Sabine Busch , Kirsten Emmelmann and Dagmar Neubauer )
- European Championships 1990 in Split: 2nd place in the 400 meter run (50.51 s); 1st place with the 4 x 400 meter relay (3: 21.02 min, together with Annett Hesselbarth , Grit Breuer and Manuela Derr )
Petra Schersing is 1.80 m tall and weighed 65 kg during her active time. She belonged to the SC Chemie Halle and trained with Harald Werner . In October 1988 she married Mathias Schersing, third in the European championship in the 400-meter run . She first studied plant breeding and became a physiotherapist after the end of the GDR.
