Harald Werner (born August 13, 1940 in Berlin ) is a German politician. He is a member of the executive committee of Die Linke . Before that he was a member of the PDS executive committee and its union policy spokesman. He is married to Heidi Knake-Werner .

Life

At the age of fourteen Werner began an apprenticeship in steel construction in Berlin-Kreuzberg and became a member of IG Metall . He then worked for several years as a locksmith in large West Berlin companies and completed evening school and evening studies as an advertising specialist.

From 1963 to 1970 Werner was publisher and editor-in-chief of the “Zehlendorfer Anzeiger” in Berlin and newspaper editor in Wiesbaden and Oldenburg . During this time he was a member of the SPD , Juso sub-district chairman, APO activist and performed various voluntary functions in the DGB and the IG Druck und Papier . In 1970 he was dismissed from the Nordwest-Zeitung in Oldenburg because of radical left-wing activities .

Harald Werner began studying at the Oldenburg University of Education, was a member of the founding committee of the University of Oldenburg , temporarily deputy chairman and thus, as formal prorector, the only student who was a member of the West German Rectors' Conference .

After obtaining his diploma in 1975 and a doctorate in sociology in 1977, Harald Werner worked as a lecturer at the Universities of Oldenburg and Bremen . Since 1972 he was a member of the German Communist Party (DKP). As a member of an anti-constitutional organization, Werner was dismissed in 1983 due to the radical decree by the Lower Saxony state government . Since then he has been working full-time as a DKP functionary. After studying for a year in the GDR at the branch of the Franz-Mehring-Institut in Berlin-Biesdorf in 1987 and then profiling as a thought leader in a study collective strongly sympathetic to perestroika , he was dismissed as an employee of the DKP party executive, dismissed and unemployed. From 1988–2004 he worked in a research project in Hamburg and in 1995 for the PDS parliamentary group in the German Bundestag.

Werner was a co-initiator of the renewal flow in the DKP and in 1990 co-founder of the PDS in Bremen. He is a member of the DGB service union ver.di and was union policy spokesman for the PDS, most recently in April 2006 as a member of the executive committee. Werner was elected to the federal executive committee at the left party congress. He was a member of this until the Göttingen Party Congress on June 3, 2012.

He represents critical- Marxist positions that attempted to base “revolutionary politics” and “political culture” on a socio-psychological basis. Like Klaus Holzkamp , Wolfgang Jantzen and Hartmut Krauss , the “West Left” Harald Werner is also considered to be a representative of a critical and subject-scientific renewal current within theoretical Marxism and the communist movement, which in Germany is parallel to the eurocommunist tendency in western mass parties such as PCI and PCF - and without reference to this - developed.

He is a member of the editorial board of the Z. Zeitschrift Marxistische Erneuerung .
