Muriel Hurtis (temporarily Muriel Hurtis-Houairi ) (born March 25, 1979 in Bondy ) is a French sprinter .

Life

In 1998 she won the Junior World Championships in the 200-meter run .

At the 1999 World Championships in Seville , she reached the semi-finals over 200 meters and won silver in the 4 x 100 meter relay with the French team . The following year she won the European Indoor Championships in Ghent . At the Olympic Games in Sydney she came over the same distance in the semifinals and was fourth in the 4-by-100-meter relay.

In 2001 she was fifth over 200 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Lisbon and again won silver in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the World Championships in Edmonton . Three gold medals followed in 2002: at the European Indoor Championships in Vienna over 200 meters and at the European Championships in Munich over 200 meters and in the 4 x 100 meter relay. In the following season, she won the 200 meter title at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham . At the World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis , she won bronze over 200 meters and gold in the 4 x 100 meter relay.

In 2004 she was fifth over 60 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest . At the Olympic Games in Athens she was eliminated over 200 meters in the quarter-finals, but won bronze in the 4 x 100 meter relay together with Véronique Mang , Sylviane Félix and Christine Arron .

At the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg, she failed over 200 meters in the semi-finals and was disqualified with the French relay in the final of the 4 x 100 meter relay. Also over 200 meters she was eliminated at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka in the quarter-finals and at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing in the semi-finals.

In 2010 she was seventh over 400 meters at the European Championships in Barcelona . At the 2011 European Indoor Championships in Paris she won bronze with the French team in the 4 x 400 meter relay . In 2012 she was again eighth over 400 meters at the European Championships in Helsinki .

She was French champion over 200 meters outdoors four times (2000, 2002, 2007, 2008) and three times indoors (1999, 2002, 2003). In 2010 and 2012 she won the national title over 400 meters.

Muriel Hurtis is 1.80 m tall and weighs 69 kg. She was married to K-mel (real name Kamel Houari), a former rapper with the hip-hop band Alliance Ethnik .
