Iwet Miroslawowa Lalova-Collio ( Bulgarian Ивет Мирославова Лалова-Колио , English transcription Ivet Lalova-Collio ; born May 18, 1984 in Sofia as Iwet Lalowa ) is a Bulgarian sprinter .

Athletic career

Iwet Lalowa-Collio gained her first international experience in 2001 at the World Youth Championships in Debrecen , where she reached the semi-finals over 100 meters and was eliminated there with 12.00 seconds. In addition, she made it to the finals in the 200-meter run , where she was fourth in 24.39 s. She then took part in the 100-meter run at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Murcia , where she finished fifth in 12.12 seconds. The following year she reached the semi-finals over 100 meters at the Junior World Championships in Kingston , in which she was eliminated with 11.83 s. In 2003 she won the European Junior Championships in Tampere in 11.43 s and 22.88 s over 100 and 200 meters and celebrated her first title wins. Prior to the Olympic Games of Athens she ran at the European Cup in Plovdiv 10.77 s in the 100 meters and one of the fastest times ever run up to this point. Only the European record holder Christine Arron , world record holder Florence Griffith-Joyner , Marion Jones , Evelyn Ashford and Merlene Ottey had run faster at this point. Lalowa-Collio made it into the finals over 100 meters and missed a medal by three hundredths of a second in 11.00 seconds. She also reached the finals over 200 meters, finishing fifth in 22.57 s. The following year she won the European Indoor Championships in Madrid in 22.91 s over 200 meters. In June 2005, Lalowa-Collio broke her thigh bone when she collided with another athlete and could not build on her promising performance as a junior in the following years.

It wasn't until 2007 that she competed again and qualified over 100 meters for the World Championships in Osaka , where she was eliminated with 11.33 s in the quarterfinals. At the World Indoor Championships in Valencia , she started the 60-meter run and was eliminated there with 7.31 s in the semifinals. In the summer she took part again in the Olympic Games in Beijing , where she reached the semi-finals over 100 meters , in which she was eliminated with 11.51 s and over 200 meters she was eliminated with 23.15 s in the quarter-finals . In 2009 she reached the quarter-finals at the World Championships in Berlin over 100 meters, where she was eliminated with 11.54 s and over 200 meters she failed with 23.60 s in the first round. In 2010 she was eliminated from the World Indoor Championships in Doha with 7.41 s over 60 meters in the semifinals. In July, she took part in the European Championships in Barcelona for the first time and was eliminated there with 11.58 s in the first round over 100 meters and could not win with the Bulgarian 4 x 100 meter relay in 44.72 s qualify for the finals. It was not until the 2011 World Championships in Daegu , South Korea , that she ran over 100 meters into the final, where she finished seventh in 11.27 seconds. In addition, she was eliminated in the semi-finals over 200 meters with 23.03 s.

In 2012 she was eighth over 60 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul in 7.27 s and at the European Championships in Helsinki she celebrated her greatest success to date by winning the 100 meters title in 11.28 s. Over 200 meters she reached the semi-finals, in which she was eliminated with 23.26 s. She qualified for the third time for the Olympic Games in London , where she finished over 100 meters with 11.31 s in the semi-finals , as well as over 200 meters with 22.98 s. In 2013 she won the bronze medal over 60 meters behind Ukrainian Marija Rjemjen and Myriam Soumaré at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg in 7.12 seconds after her compatriot Tesdschan Naimowa had been stripped of the gold medal for doping. In August, she made it to the semi-finals at the World Championships in Moscow over 100 and 200 meters, in which she was eliminated with 11.10 s and 22.81 s. The following year she finished fifth at the European Championships in Zurich in 11.33 s over 100 meters and was eliminated in the semifinals over 200 meters with 23.30 s. In addition, she could not qualify for the final with the season in 44.53 s.

In 2015 she was eliminated from the European Indoor Championships in Prague with 7.27 s in the semi-finals. In the summer she reached the World Championships in Beijing, despite the season best of 11.09 s, she did not make it to the semifinals . She was able to improve over 200 meters and after numerous injuries achieved a new personal best in the semifinals of 22.32 s and later finished seventh in the final in 22.41 s. In 2016, she won the silver medal behind Dutch rider Dafne Schippers at the European Championships in Amsterdam in 11.20 seconds, and over 200 meters she was beaten only by Briton Dina Asher-Smith in 22.52 seconds . In August she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for the fourth time and made it to the semi-finals there, but couldn't start there due to an injury. Over 200 meters, she reached the finals with a season best , where she finished eighth in 22.69 s. The following year she reached the World Championships in London over 100 and 200 meters to the semifinals, in which she was eliminated with 11.25 s and 22.96 s.

In 2018 she took part in the European Championships in Berlin only over 200 meters and was fifth there in 22.82 s. The following year she reached the finals at the World Championships in Doha , where she finished seventh in 22.77 s.

In 2004, 2005 and 2009 Lalowa-Collio became Bulgarian champion in the 100-meter run and in 2004 also over 200 meters. In the hall, she secured the championship titles over 60 meters in 2003 and 2009.

Iwet Lalowa's father Miroslaw Lalow was Bulgarian 200-meter champion in 1966. Since 2013 she has been married to the Italian sprinter Simone Collio .
