Heather Armitage

Heather Armitage , m. Young, (born March 17, 1933 in England ) is a former British athlete and Olympian.

Armitage finished sixth at the 1954 European Championships in Bern , and in 1958 she won the gold medal in the 100-meter run in Stockholm .

At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1954 , held in Vancouver , she won the silver medal with the 4-by-110-yard relay. At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games 1958 , held in Cardiff , Wales , she won the silver medal over 100 yards, behind the Australian Marlene Willard (gold) and in front of the Englishwoman Madeleine Weston (bronze), as well as the bronze medal over 220 yards, behind the two Australians Marlene Willard (gold) and Betty Cuthbert (silver), and the gold medal with the 4-by-110-yard relay.

At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 she won the bronze medal together with her teammates Sylvia Cheeseman , Jean Desforges and June Foulds , behind the team from the USA (gold) and the team from Germany (silver). At the Olympic Games in Melbourne , Australia in 1956 , she won the silver medal, together with her teammates Anne Pashley , Jean Scrivens and June Foulds, behind the team from Australia (gold) and in front of the team from the USA (bronze).
