Petra Kandarr

Petra Kandarr (née Vogt ; born August 20, 1950 in Halle ; † March 11, 2017 in Karlsruhe ) was a German sprinter who started for the GDR .

Life

At the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1969 , as a 19-year-old high school student, she was three times European champion over 100 meters , 200 meters and in the 4 x 100 meter relay (together with Bärbel Podeswa , Renate Meißner , Regina Höfer ). For this she was elected GDR Sportswoman of the Year and awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.

At the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1971 , she finished seventh over 100 meters and won the silver medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay with the GDR team. Starting after her marriage in 1972 under the name Kandarr, she won silver over 60 meters at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Rotterdam in 1973 and was eighth over 200 meters at the 1974 European Championships in Rome.

Petra Kandarr was 1.73 m tall and weighed 62 kg during her active time. She belonged to the SC Chemie Halle and trained with Sepp Breitschaft . After saying goodbye to sport, she studied pedagogy and worked as a teacher in the children's and youth sports school in Halle (Saale).

She was married to Lutz Kandarr and lived in Karlsruhe since 1991. Former professional tennis player and participant in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney Jana Kandarr is her daughter. Petra Kandarr died in Karlsruhe in March 2017 at the age of 66.
