Ute Starke , married Kahlenberg (born January 14, 1939 in Eisleben ), is a former German gymnast . Starting for the GDR , she was among the best in the world in the 1960s, especially in horse jumping. In this discipline she became European champion in Leipzig in 1961 , for which she was elected GDR Sportswoman of the Year in the same year .

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , she won the bronze medal with the GDR team. She took part in three Olympic Games - 1960, 1964 and 1968 in individual competitions in gymnastics, but without medal success. Further successes in horse jumping: Vice European Champion in 1965, World Championship fourth in 1966.

After the end of her sports career, she became a trainer at SC Leipzig , and after the end of the GDR she became a trainer at TuG Leipzig.

Ute Starke started for the SC Lokomotive Leipzig / SC Leipzig and trained with Ellen Berger and Sylvia Hlavacek .
