Karin Beyer (born July 30, 1941 in Halberstadt ), married to Karin Harzer , is a former German swimmer who competed for the GDR . On July 20, 1958, she set the first world record for a GDR swimmer in Berlin and improved it a little later. In 1958, she was voted the first GDR female athlete of the year .

The only major international competition in which she took part was the 1958 European Championship in Budapest , where she came fourth with the GDR layer relay. In 1960 she failed in the qualifying elimination for the Olympic Games in Rome .

Karin Beyer started for the SC Chemie Halle and the SC Rotation Leipzig and trained with Liesl Kaufmann . After the end of her swimming career, she became a sports teacher in Halle-Neustadt .
