Geraldina "Dina" Rachel Asher-Smith (born December 4, 1995 in Orpington ) is a British sprinter and British record holder over 100 and 200 meters and reigning world champion over 200 meters.

Athletic career

Dina Asher-Smith gained her first international experience at the European Youth Olympic Festival 2011 in Trabzon , where she was disqualified in the final of the 200-meter run . Then she won the Commonwealth Youth Games in Douglas in 24.30 s. The following year she finished seventh at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona in 23.50 s and did not finish with the British 4 x 100 meter relay. In 2013 she won the European Junior Championships in Rieti in 23.29 s in the individual competition and in 43.81 s with the relay. She received a starting place in the relay for the World Championships in Moscow , where she won the bronze medal behind Jamaica and the United States in 42.87 s. In July 2014 she won the Junior World Championships in Eugene in 11.23 s in the 100 meter run . However, she qualified over 200 meters for the European Championships in Zurich , where she could not finish her final run.

At the European Indoor Championships in Prague 2015, she won the silver medal in the 60-meter run in 7.08 seconds behind the Dutchman Dafne Schippers . Over 200 meters she qualified for the World Championships in Beijing and was fifth in the final with a new British record of 22.07 s . They also occupied with the British relay race in 42.10 s fourth . In 2016, she took part in the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where she also reached the 60 meter final, but did not start there again. At the European Championships in Amsterdam she was crowned European champion in the 200-meter run for the first time in 22.37 s. In addition, she won the silver medal behind the Dutch women with the British relay in 42.45 s. They thus qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she's in 22.31 in the finals broke in fifth. With the season in the cast Asha Philip , Desirèe Henry , Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita , she won the bronze medal behind the United States and Jamaica with a new British record of 41.77 s.

At the home World Championships in London she won with 22.22 s the fourth place and won the relay in 42.12 s the silver medal behind the US women. In 2018 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time , where she won the bronze medal in the 200-meter run in 22.29 s and won the relay with the English record time of 42.46 s. At the European Championships in Berlin , the 22-year-old won gold over 100 meters (10.85 s, national record), 200 m (21.89 s, national record) and four times 100 meters. She then finished second in the relay and in the 100-meter run at the Athletics Continental Cup in Ostrava . The following year she reached the final at the World Championships in Doha over 100 meters and won the silver medal behind the Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce with a new British record of 10.83 s . Just three days later she won the 200m with a new British record of 21.88 s. Towards the end of the championships, she also secured the silver medal behind Jamaica with the British relay in 41.85 s.

In 2015, 2018 and 2019 , Asher-Smith became British champion in the 100-meter run and in 2016 over 200 meters. In the hall, she secured the championship title in the 200 meters in 2014 and in the 60-meter run in 2015. She graduated from King's College London . In 2018 she was named European Athlete of the Year.
