Olesya Iwaniwna Powch ( Ukrainian Олеся Іванівна Повх , English transcription Olesya Ivanivna Povkh ; born October 18, 1987 in Dnipropetrovsk ) is a Ukrainian sprinter . She was European indoor champion over 60 meters and European champion with the 4 x 100 meter relay .

Career

In 2010 she became national champion in the indoor over 60 meters and outdoors over 100 meters . She reached the semi-finals at the World Indoor Championships in Doha over 60 meters and at the European Championships in Barcelona over 100 meters. As the starting runner of the Ukrainian relay, she won the gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the European Championships together with Natalija Pohrebnjak , Marija Rjemjen and Jelysaweta Bryshina . In addition, she was third in the relay at the European team championship and second in the 2010 Continental Cup

At the European Indoor Championships in 2011 Powch won the gold medal over 60 meters ahead of her compatriot Marija Rjemjen. At the World Championships in the same year she was third with the Ukrainian relay. At the European team championships she reached first place in the relay and second in the individual run.

In 2012 Powch became Vice European Champion in Helsinki . The season also reached the final, but the baton was lost there. At the Olympic Games in London shortly afterwards, she reached the semi-finals in singles. The relay race was more successful, in which the Ukrainians won the bronze medal with a new national record.

At the European Indoor Championships 2017 in Belgrade , she won the silver medal over 60 meters with a new best performance. One day before the start of the World Championships in London , she and her compatriot Olha Semljak were convicted of doping and were then prohibited from starting. Powch was banned from the Ukrainian Federation for four years. Powch was unsuccessful in the appeal proceedings before the International Sports Court , the start of the ban was set for June 15, 2016.

Honors

On July 25, 2013 she was awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit 3rd Class for achieving high sports results at the XXVII by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych . World Summer Universiade awarded in Kazan.
