Leena Günther (born April 16, 1991 in Cologne ) is a German athlete . She became European champion in 2012 with the German 4 x 100 meter relay .

Life

She has been doing athletics since 2002. The sprinter starts for the LT DSHS Cologne . Günther became German B youth champion over 100 meters in 2008 and German youth champion over 100 meters, 200 meters and with the 4 x 100 meter relay of the LT DSHS Cologne in 2010. She thus became the most successful athlete in the championships. In 2011 Günther became German junior champion over 100 meters and with the 4 x 100 meter relay. At her first start in the active class, she finished second over 60 meters indoors in 2011 and over 100 meters outdoors in the same year.

Internationally, Günther was able to win the silver medal with the German relay over 4 x 100 meters at the U20 European Championships in 2009 in Novi Sad and at the U20 World Championships in 2010 in Moncton / Canada . In singles, she was Vice-U23 European Champion 2011 . For the 2011 World Championships in Daegu she was nominated by the DLV for the relay and - as the only German sprinter alongside Yasmin Kwadwo - for a single start over 100 meters.

Günther celebrated her greatest success to date at the European Championships in Helsinki in 2012 , when she became European champion as the starting runner with the German 4 x 100 meter relay around Anne Cibis , Tatjana Pinto and Verena Sailer . In the same line-up, the season reached fifth place at the Olympic Games in London.

After graduating from high school, Günther began studying medicine at the Apostle High School in Cologne .

In February 2016, Günther officially said goodbye to the national team, because she wanted to focus more on her studies.
