Athletics Continental Cup 2010

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1st Athletics Continental Cup (official name IAAF / VTB Bank Continental Cup ) took place on September 4th and 5th, 2010 in the Croatian city of Split . The total of 40 athletics competitions were held in the Poljud stadium.

The event was originally planned as the 11th World Cup in Athletics. In 2008, the IAAF decided to rename and change the format.

Competition mode

Four continental teams competed against each other: America , Africa , Asia / Pacific ( Asia and Oceania ) and Europe . In each individual competition, two athletes per team competed, with the exception of 1500 meters, 3000 meters, 5000 meters and 3000 meters obstacles, where three runners from each team started and the two best were rated.

The results of the European Championships 2010 and African Championships 2010 were used as a basis for the selection of the respective continental teams; for the other teams, the lists of the best were used.

In each discipline a maximum of 36 points were awarded according to this key:

space Individual
competition
Season
1 8th 15th
2 7th 11
3 6th 7th
4th 5 3
5 4th
6th 3
7th 2
8th 1

While there was still a separate rating for men and women in the World Cup, the scores of both genders have now been added up for the overall result.

A total of $ 2,900,000 in prize money was distributed, including $ 30,000 for the winners in each discipline.

Final score

space team Points
1 Americas 422.5
2 Europe 417.0
3 Africa 293.0
4th Asia-Pacific 290.5

First, the European team was crowned the winner with 429 points ahead of the American (419.5 points). Since Andrej Michnewitsch and Alemitu Bekele were subsequently disqualified for doping , the victory of the American team was awarded after the score was adjusted.
