Sara Moreira

Sara Isabel Fonseca Moreira (born October 17, 1985 in Roriz ) is a Portuguese obstacle and long distance runner .

In 2007 she became Portuguese champion over 3000 meters indoors and over 3000 meters obstacle outdoors. At the U23 European Championships she won the bronze medal on the obstacle course in 2007. A month later, she came fourth at the Universiade . Another two weeks later she reached the finals at the World Championships in Osaka and finished in 13th place.

In 2008 she was able to defend her two championship titles. In Neerpelt she improved in June 2008 to 9: 34.30 minutes on the obstacle course. At the Olympic Games in Beijing , she came within nine tenths of a second of her best time, but was eliminated in tenth of her run.

In the following year she became national champion in the 15 km road race and improved over 3000 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Turin to 8: 48.18 min, with which she won the silver medal behind the Turkish Alemitu Bekele . Then she came in 16th at the World Cross Country Championships in Amman and won bronze with the Portuguese team. At the Great Manchester Run she finished second, and at the World Championships in Berlin she was tenth over 5000 meters , but failed over 3000 meters obstacle despite a personal best in the run-up.

In 2010 she was sixth at the World Indoor Championships in Doha over 3000 meters, finished 27th at the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz and came second at the Great Manchester Run. At the European Championships in Barcelona , she started over 5000 and 10,000 meters . Over 10,000 meters she stayed in the top group for a long time, but did not reach the goal, over 5000 meters she initially won the bronze medal, after the winner was subsequently suspended the silver medal. At the Athletics Continental Cup in Split , she was seventh over 3000 meters.

In 2011 she finished seventh over 1500 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Paris , came 20th at the World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbría , and came fourth at the Great Manchester Run. Moreira reached twelfth place at the world championships in Daegu over 3000 meters obstacle , but was convicted of doping with the stimulant methylhexanamine and banned for six months.

After her doping ban, Moreira won the bronze medal over 5000 meters at the European Championships in Helsinki in 2012 . At the Olympic Games in London she started on the 10,000 meter course and reached 14th place.

In March 2013, she won the gold medal in the 3000 meter run at the 2013 European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden . At the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam , she won the half marathon, which was held there for the first time instead of the marathon.

Sara Moreira is 1.68 m tall and weighs 48 kg. She is trained by Pedro Ribeiro and starts for the Maratona Clube de Portugal.
