The state election in Thuringia in 1990 was the first election to the Thuringian state parliament since the fall of the Wall and took place on October 14, 1990 together with the state elections in the other new states .

The CDU's top candidate was the previous government representative in the Erfurt district , Josef Duchač . Friedhelm Farthmann , chairman of the parliamentary group in the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament, stood for the SPD . The CDU clearly won the election and narrowly missed an absolute majority. She formed a coalition with the FDP.

initial situation

The first free Volkskammer election in 1990 on March 18, 1990 resulted in a victory for the Alliance for Germany and a defeat for the SPD . The SED , renamed PDS , had to end its 40-year dictatorial rule and won 16.4% of the vote. Lothar de Maizière formed a grand coalition . The first Thuringian state parliament was opened on October 25, 1990 in the German National Theater in Weimar . For Parliament President was Gottfried Müller (CDU) voted.

The state parliament elected Josef Duchač as Thuringian Prime Minister . He headed a coalition government with seven CDU and three FDP ministers. In February 1992 Duchač was replaced by Bernhard Vogel after Stasi allegations .
