The state election in Saxony-Anhalt in 1990 was the first election to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt since the reconstitution of the state of Saxony-Anhalt after the reunification of Germany . It took place on October 14, 1990. 2,234,994 residents were eligible to vote; the turnout was 65.1%.

The CDU Saxony-Anhalt (CDU) was the strongest force with 39.0% of the vote, the SPD Saxony-Anhalt (SPD) came with 26.0% of the vote. The Free Democrats (FDP) with 13.5%, the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) with 12.0% and the Green List / New Forum with 5.3% of the votes made it into the state parliament .

The original number of seats was increased from 98 to 106 after the CDU had eight overhang seats. They won 48 of the 49 constituencies. Only in the Magdeburg II constituency did the SPD win the direct mandate with Reinhard Höppner .

A Christian-liberal coalition was formed under Prime Minister Gerd Gies (CDU).
