Gerd Brunner (born July 11, 1928 in Limbach / Sa .; † September 9, 2002 ) was a German lawyer , university professor and politician ( FDP ).

Life and work

The son of the politician Wilhelm Brunner studied law at secondary school after graduating from high school, worked in the meantime as a timber transport worker and completed his studies with the state examination. He was promoted to Dr. jur. doctorate, qualified as a professor and later worked as a university professor at the Technical University of Magdeburg .

Brunner joined the LDPD before 1950 and worked as editor-in-chief for the Liberal-Demokratie Zeitung in Halle . He was also a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt from 1950 to 1952. During these three years Brunner was a member of the LDPD's regional executive committee . In the course of the political change in the GDR , he joined the FDP. In 1990 he was elected regional chairman of the FDP Saxony-Anhalt .

Brunner entered the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt in 1990 and was appointed Minister for Federal and European Affairs on November 2, 1990, as well as Deputy Prime Minister in the state government led by Prime Minister Gerd Gies . He was also briefly a member of the subsequent government headed by Prime Minister Werner Münch . After his part-time contacts with the former Ministry for State Security of the GDR became known to the Gauck authorities , he resigned from his government offices on August 9, 1991 on the grounds that he did not want to damage the reputation of the state government. On September 12, 1991, he finally resigned from the government. He then left the FDP and its parliamentary group. Peter Kunert subsequently took over his post as regional chairman of the FDP .

In 1994, Brunner joined the group with the former members of the disbanded DS parliamentary group (German social parliamentary group, successor to the DSU parliamentary group), the chairman of the taxpayer party Bärbel Ballhorn and the non-attached MP Wilfried Hofmann (former educational policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group) Independent MP (FUA) together.
