Veit Wolpert

Veit Wolpert (born August 20, 1960 in Würzburg ) is a German politician ( FDP ). From 2004 to 2006 and again from 2008 to 2011 he was chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt and had been state chairman of the FDP since April 2011. On January 7, 2013, he announced his resignation and thus drew the consequences of his electoral defeat for number 1 on the list for the federal election.

Life and work

Wolpert attended the Staffelsee-Gymnasium in Murnau am Staffelsee and passed the Abitur there in 1979. He then did his basic military service with the mountain troops in Mittenwald . From 1980 to 1987 Wolpert completed a law degree at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , where he joined the Corps Bavaria , and the University of Innsbruck . Between 1987 and 1990 he was a trainee lawyer in Würzburg and Windhoek . Wolpert has been working as an independent lawyer since 1990.

Political party

In 1990 Wolpert joined the FDP. Since the state party conference in Spergau in April 2007, he was deputy state chairman of the FDP in Saxony-Anhalt. On April 9, 2011, he was elected state chairman at the state party conference in Quedlinburg.

Public offices and honorary offices

Veit Wolpert has been a member of the district council of the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district since 1997 and was chairman of the district council of Bitterfeld from 1999 to 2007. He is also a member of the local council of Rösa.

Veit Wolpert had been a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt since the state elections in 2002 . From 2004 until the end of the legislature in 2006, he was chairman of the FDP parliamentary group.

Since 1996 Wolpert has been chairman of the Rotary Aid Organization Bitterfeld / Wolfen. He is also the chairman of the Bernsteinsee Association. Wolpert is deputy chairman of the administrative board of Kreissparkasse Bitterfeld and chairman of the supervisory board of the industrial structure company.

In the state elections in 2006 Wolpert was re -elected to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt via the state list of the FDP. In a battle vote for the parliamentary group chairmanship in the 5th legislative period against Karl-Heinz Paqué, Wolpert lost just 3: 4 votes. After Karl-Heinz Paqué withdrew from state politics, Wolpert ran again for election as parliamentary group leader in April 2008. He was elected unanimously.

Due to the failure of the FDP to pass the five percent hurdle in the 2011 state election , in which Wolpert ran as the top candidate, he left the state parliament in April 2011.
