The FDP Saxony-Anhalt is the Saxony-Anhalt state association of the Free Democratic Party .

history

The Saxony-Anhalt state association of the FDP was founded on July 14, 1990 in Zerbst as part of the merger of the former GDR block parties LDP and NDPD . In addition, the Free Democratic Party of the GDR , newly founded after the fall of the Wall , under its state chairman Hans-Herbert Haase, and the German Forum Party .

Not least due to the fact that Hans-Dietrich Genscher , who has been chairman of the FDP for many years, was born in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt was initially a stronghold of the liberals. In the 1990 Bundestag election in Saxony-Anhalt, for example, the FDP achieved the best party result of all federal states with a second vote share of 19.7%. In addition, Uwe Lühr won the first direct mandate for the party in the Halle-Altstadt constituency since 1961 and the last one in federal elections to this day.

In the meantime, in the first state election in Saxony-Anhalt in 1990 , the FDP achieved the best result in the new federal states with 13.5% of the vote . She then formed a Christian-liberal coalition with the CDU Saxony-Anhalt and from then on provided three state ministers , including Gerd Brunner and Wolfgang Rauls as deputy prime ministers. After the end of the first legislative period, a long phase of extra-parliamentary opposition began. Both in 1994 and 1998 the FDP failed at the five percent hurdle . It was not until 2002 that it succeeded in re-entering the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament with a share of the vote of 13.3%. As a result, the government coalition with the CDU was reissued, in which the FDP was represented by two other ministers in addition to the deputy prime minister and economics minister Horst Rehberger : Karl-Heinz Paqué became finance minister, Gerry Kley social minister. In 2006 the party received only 6.7% of the vote, after which it left the state government. In the state elections in 2011 , the FDP left the state parliament with 3.8%. Despite slight gains, the FDP also narrowly failed in 2016 with 4.9% (with approx. 1500 votes) at the five percent hurdle . In the state elections in 2021 , the Free Democratic Party of Saxony-Anhalt succeeded in re-entering the state parliament with 6.4% and thus 7 mandates. It is expected that the FDP Saxony-Anhalt will be involved in the next state government, although it does not want to join a German coalition of CDU, SPD and FDP that would have an absolute majority even without the FDP.

organization

The FDP Saxony-Anhalt is divided into 14 district associations, which in turn are made up of around 115 local associations. The highest decision-making body is the state party conference , which takes place annually and where the various party bodies are elected. Furthermore, the candidates for the respective state lists for state, Bundestag or European Parliament elections are set up here.

At the municipal level, the FDP Saxony-Anhalt is represented by around 400 mandate holders (as of 2006).

State party conference

The state party conference of the FDP Saxony-Anhalt is the highest decision-making body of the state association. Once a year, within the first four months of the year, it meets as an ordinary state party conference. The results are binding for the regional association, the branches and the members. It comprises 200 delegates who are elected from the district associations according to a delegate key.

State representative assembly

The Land lists for the Bundestag and Landtag elections, as well as the delegates and substitute delegates for Europe Day are elected at the Land Representative Assembly. Like the state party congress, it comprises 200 delegates who are elected from the district associations according to a delegate key.
