The AFD Saxony-Anhalt is the national association of the party Alternative for Germany (AFD) in the land of Saxony-Anhalt . The regional association is led by the Bundestag member Martin Reichardt as regional chairman. With André Poggenburg as the top candidate, the state party entered the state elections in 2016 for the first time and entered the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt with the second largest parliamentary group .

history

The AfD regional association Saxony-Anhalt was founded in April 2013. The first state chairman was Michael Heendorf , who resigned in December. Heendorf was previously a city council member for the PDS and CDU . Arndt Klapproth from Dessau-Roßlau was elected as the new state chairman at a party conference on December 21 . Klapproth resigned in March 2014 after he was accused of admitting members contrary to the party statutes, stealing funds from the party coffers and not being able to prepare for election campaigns. He denied all allegations. He had lost a vote of confidence initiated among the district chairmen. The chairmanship was temporarily taken over by Tobias Rausch . André Poggenburg was elected state chairman in June 2014.

In May 2014, the AfD was able to occupy a total of 16 seats at the district level and a further 34 seats in the municipalities and localities in the local elections with a nationwide result of 2.3 percent of the votes. Before the city council election in Magdeburg it became known that eight AfD candidates had been noticed for coercion , threats and bodily harm and that the Magdeburg AfD district chairman had acted as a porn actor.

In the summer of 2015, as part of a power struggle in the party as a whole and finally the split of the Alliance for Progress and Awakening around Bernd Lucke , the AfD Saxony-Anhalt also increasingly resigned, including numerous municipal elected officials and functionaries at the district and state level. Due to the "lack of distancing from right-wing extremists", the chairman of the Harz district association, Michael Möller, demanded the resignation of state chairman André Poggenburg. Möller later left the party.

At the end of 2015, the AfD Saxony-Anhalt, like some other AfD state associations, carried out demonstrations against refugees and the federal government's refugee policy. Larger demonstrations took place in Magdeburg and Halle, in which around 750 people took part in Magdeburg in October 2000 and around 750 in December, and around 500 in Halle. There were also attacks by participants in these AfD demonstrations on journalists.

In the run-up to the state elections in 2016 , state chairman André Poggenburg was elected the top candidate with 88 percent of the vote. In the elections, the AfD Saxony-Anhalt became the second strongest party with a share of second votes of 24.3% and achieved 25 seats in the state parliament. Initially, only 24 seats were allotted to the party due to an incorrect allocation of ballot papers.

In May 2016, AfD state treasurer Alexander Raue was refused discharge by the state party conference due to missing documents. His successor Yvonne Sturm - AfD district chairwoman Harz and employee of the AfD state parliamentary group - resigned from the office of state treasurer after a month due to workload, possible conflicts of interest and the unprofessional way of working of the AfD state executive.

politics

In Saxony-Anhalt, the AfD is positioned "to the right of the CDU", judged political scientist Roger Stöcker in 2016. Within the AfD, the state association should therefore be positioned to the right. The AfD Saxony-Anhalt formulated its more concrete political demands in its election program for the state elections in 2016.

The AfD is "above all about interpretative sovereignty, " wrote Der Spiegel about the political orientation of the state party. "A one-sided focus on twelve unfortunate years in our history obscures the view of centuries in which a unique substance of culture and state order was built," is the preamble to the election program. Björn Höcke ( AfD Thuringia ) has often made similar statements , the mirror classified.

According to David Begrich, extremism expert at the club together , is AFD Saxony-Anhalt the far-right " identitary movement " near "the wing here Saxony-Anhalt dominated, which is the populist nationalist right wing of the party. This represents the content that is also represented by the identities quite openly. "

The party defends itself against "alien social experiments that manipulate the change in gender roles and want to create a new, gender-neutral person." By this, the AfD means approaches to gender mainstreaming , which aims to achieve equality and equal treatment for all, regardless of their physical or social gender Has. The AfD also rejects "a full legal equality of marriage with the registered civil partnership , the so-called" gay marriage ", [...] strictly."

Furthermore, the party calls for the abolition of compulsory schooling and for parents to be allowed to choose to teach their children at home ( home schooling ). It just needs to be ensured that the children pass general exams.

According to the will of the AfD, municipalities “with special crime hotspots” should be given the right to “introduce voluntary vigilante groups at the municipal level.” Their relatives should form an “ auxiliary police ” and be compensated with a tax-free flat rate for instructors.

In April 2016, the state board of the AfD Saxony-Anhalt requested the relaxation of the weapons law in an application to the federal party congress . The small gun license should be abolished and gun licenses issued more frequently.

Controversy

Contacts with right-wing extremists

AfD state chairman Poggenburg took part in a panel discussion of the magazine Compact in Tröglitz in 2015 . Right-wing extremists such as Christian Bärthel were also part of the discussion .

The AFD Member Michael Ahlborn had financed 2,014 activities of neo-Nazi "funeral march" in January and early 2015 was one of the main speakers at the Magdeburg " Pegida " -Ablegers "Magida". Ahlborn ran on the state list of the AfD for the state election in March 2016. AfD state chairman Poggenburg said it was possible that he would also give a speech at "Magida" himself. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, “right-wing extremist control or influence was ascertained” at the “Magida” meetings . The NPD state chairman Peter Walde also spoke at “Magida” .

On April 7, 2016, the AfD member of the state parliament, Jan Wenzel Schmidt, was the “speaker and guest of honor” at a public meeting of the right-wing extremist identity movement in Wernigerode, which was monitored by the constitution protection authorities . AfD member of the state parliament, Hans-Thomas Tillschneider , met with a group of “identities” in Halle (Saale) to discuss further cooperation. The group visited by Tillschneider had previously appeared with the disruption of public meetings and criminal offenses.

In April 2017 it became known that John Hoewer, who was employed as a consultant for home affairs and European affairs in the AfD parliamentary group, had attended a congress of the neo-fascist movement CasaPound Italia in Rome . Other participants included the former NPD politician Michael Schäfer and a representative of the right-wing extremist Greek party Golden Dawn . In July 2017, several domestic politicians in the state parliament declared across party lines that Hoewer's further employment would be unsustainable because his contacts pose a security risk and there is a risk that confidential matters from the interior committee could be leaked to the right-wing extremist scene. The chairman of the Interior Committee Hagen Kohl (AfD), on the other hand, did not want to recognize any right-wing extremist sentiments at Hoewer. The top group of the AfD has not yet commented on the issue.

Membership of a former DVU MP

Mirko Mokry , a former member of the state parliament of the right-wing extremist German People's Union , joined the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt in September 2014 and initially left again in May 2015 in order to avert damage from the party. The inclusion of Mokry had also caused criticism within the party. In autumn 2015, Mokry became a supporting member of the AfD.

Facebook comments

State board member Jobst von Harlessem shared a photo montage on his Facebook page of Barack Obama , Joseph Biden and John Kerry being hung on a gallows. In a comment, von Harlessem attributed the collapse of the World Trade Center to the US government. Dirk Hoffmann, district chairman of the AfD Wittenberg, compared the attacks by Israel on the Gaza Strip with the Holocaust . Harlessem later resigned from the board of directors.

In mid-October 2015, a statement by René Augusti (member of the board of the AfD district association Salzwedel) became public in a closed Facebook group. He wrote: “The migration of peoples must be stopped. Those who call themselves Germans and encourage this should be put on the wall. ”The entry did not meet with internal criticism until the media reports. The district chairman of Anhalt-Bitterfeld, Daniel Roi , noted, however, "(to) avoid such sentences with" belong on the wall "because" the press cannibalizes something like that ".

Use of the term "Volksgemeinschaft"

In December 2015, the AfD Saxony-Anhalt published a Christmas greeting and called for “responsibility for the national community ”. According to the political scientist Samuel Salzborn from the University of Göttingen , the concept of the national community is "clearly evidenced by National Socialism ". AfD state chairman Poggenburg, however, said the term was "completely unproblematic and even extremely positive".

Kubitschek membership

In February 2015, the federal board opposed the party membership of the new right journalist Götz Kubitschek and his wife Ellen Kositza . Kubitschek and Kositza were accepted by the Halle-Saalekreis district association of the AfD Saxony-Anhalt. The AfD Saxony-Anhalt criticized the decision of the federal board as an inadmissible interference.

Intra-party conflicts

The trigger for the dispute was the thesis paper "Call of Reason from Saxony-Anhalt", which the AfD Saxony-Anhalt warned in June 2016 against rapprochement with right-wing extremists , which was organized and published by the then parliamentary managing director Daniel Roi . Poggenburg saw this as Roi's behavior that was damaging to the party, but later supported the thesis paper. The party executive reprimanded Roi. In November 2016, Roi lost his position to Robert Farle in an early board election . His partner Sarah Sauermann also left the parliamentary group executive committee. Poggenburg described Roi's deselection as a direct result of the thesis paper. Poggenburg also spoke about having averted the resignation of some members of the parliamentary group.

At the end of December 2016, Rois, an employee, was dismissed after accusing MP Matthias Büttner of sexual assault ten days earlier . After Roi wanted to ask critical questions internally about the dismissal of his employee, however, he felt that the executive committee wanted to force all members of the parliamentary group to recognize the official procedure. With this reason, Roi made the incident public. Then an application was made to expel MP Roi because he had passed on internal information to the outside world. Group leader Poggenburg felt his trust in Roi was very damaged and rejects Rois' allegations.

During the AfD party conference in March 2017, chat discussions between dissatisfied AfD members became known who wanted to replace the current party leadership in Saxony-Anhalt. Among them were high-ranking party members. Poggenburg called on the masterminds to resign from their offices, otherwise the state executive would take action. Before a second AfD party congress in April 2017, Poggenburg announced in an email that it would take action against internal party critics. After none of the participants resigned, Roi, Jens Diederichs and Gottfried Backhaus were withdrawn from their positions in committees in May .

In June 2017 after Sauermann, Backhaus and Diederichs left, Poggenburg and his deputies Oliver Kirchner and Tobias Rausch met with Roi, Lydia Funke and Hannes Loth to prevent further withdrawals from the AfD parliamentary group. Nevertheless, Funke announced her resignation as AfD district chief in July 2017. Most of the resignations were associated with a shift to the right by the AfD parliamentary group.

In July 2017, critics von Poggenburg united to form an intra-party interest group “ Alternative Mitte ”. One of the five speakers is Dirk Hoffmann, who has already been announced that the state executive board will impeach him as district chairman. Poggenburg criticizes the group because numerous members have participated in "overturning plans" against the state executive. After criticizing Poggenburg, the regional arbitration court resigned completely.

Parliamentary group

Constitution and Criticism

The AfD parliamentary group was formally constituted on March 31, 2016. With the constituent meeting on the last day of March, the AfD parliamentary group secured the parliamentary group subsidies from tax revenues of over 138,000 euros for the entire month of March. This was criticized, among other things, by the taxpayers' association , which called for a reform of parliamentary group financing with "day-specific" allocation of funds for all parliamentary groups as a consequence.

former members

  • Sarah Sauermann (moving in via direct mandate Wahlkreis Bernburg ; left the parliamentary group on May 28, 2017): She justified her resignation by saying that she could no longer agree with her conscience to remain in the parliamentary group. "Constructive work in the spirit of the matter (be with your parliamentary group colleagues) impossible". Sauermann is considered a critic of the then parliamentary group leader André Poggenburg .
  • Gottfried Backhaus (moving in via direct mandate in the Querfurt constituency ; resigned from the parliamentary group on June 2, 2017): As a justification, he stated that opinions and actions in the parliamentary group had become increasingly extreme and radical; moderate critics of this development would have learned from the state executive board and the parliamentary group executive committee undemocratic procedures and disadvantages.
  • Jens Diederichs (moving in via direct mandate, constituency Eisleben ; left parliamentary group and party on June 6, 2017). He justified the decision with "pressure to the right" from the parliamentary group and the regional association. As an example, he cited the non-intervention of the parliamentary group and state executive when some did not adhere to the incompatibility resolution with the right-wing extremist identity movement issued by the AfD federal executive .
  • André Poggenburg (moving in through the direct mandate of the Zeitz constituency ; resigned from the party on January 10, 2019, resigned from the parliamentary group on January 22, 2019): The reason he gave was that the AfD was no longer his "real political home".
  • Andreas Mrosek (moving in through the direct mandate of the Dessau-Roßlau constituency): elected to the 19th German Bundestag on September 24, 2017 ; Declaration of the waiver of the mandate on March 27, 2018, effective from April 15, 2018, successor Daniel Wald
