Die Linke Sachsen-Anhalt is one of the sixteen state associations of the party Die Linke and represents the party in the state of Saxony-Anhalt . It was founded in its current form in 2007 and emerged from the regional association of the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) in Saxony-Anhalt, which was founded in the summer of 1990 .

Since the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in 1990 , the PDS or the Left has been represented in the state parliament as an opposition party; from 1994 to 2002 she tolerated SPD- led minority governments ( Magdeburg model ) under Prime Minister Reinhard Höppner . The top candidate for the state elections in 2016 was the parliamentary group chairman and opposition leader Wulf Gallert .
