history
History since the unification
The Brandenburg state association of the party Die Linke was formed in the course of the nationwide unification of PDS and WASG in 2007. On September 8 of the same year, the state associations of both parties united at the party congress in Brandenburg an der Havel .
Through the previous PDS parliamentary group in the state parliament, the party was already represented in the state parliament before the state elections in 2009. At that time she was in opposition to the red-black state government of Matthias Platzeck . After the same time as the general election held state elections it forms from 2009 to 2019 as a junior partner together with the SPD Brandenburg a coalition in the parliament and asked the state government with. Since the state elections in 2019 , the state government has been provided by a Kenya coalition , so the party is now in the opposition.
Outlines and associations
The state party is divided into 17 district associations, each corresponding to the districts and independent cities, with a joint district association in the independent city of Cottbus and in the Spree-Neisse district. The district association with the largest number of members in 2013 was the Lausitz district association with 837 members, the weakest in the Prignitz district with 147 members. The state party has a total of 5,802 members who are organized in grassroots groups (as of December 31, 2018).
The highest decision-making body is the state party congress, which is elected for two years. According to the statutes, it meets at least once a calendar year. He elects the state executive for two years, which leads the party between state party conferences. The state board consists of one or two chairpersons and up to four deputies, a state manager and a state treasurer. The members of the extended board result from the number of members of the executive board and may not exceed the total number of 18 members. There is also a state committee as an organ of the state association with advisory, control and initiative functions vis-à-vis the state board. The state committee consists of a total of 38 members, the majority from the district associations (30 places), the state-wide associations (4 places) and the state board and the youth association (2 places each).
The Left Brandenburg has several internal party associations. These can be freely formed by the members and are not official branches of the state party. The associations work independently on certain subject areas or, in the case of the Communist Platform, are a political current. In 2014 there were the following national associations:
