Margitta Mächtig (born October 16, 1956 in Dresden , GDR ) is a German politician ( DIE LINKE ) and a member of the state parliament of Brandenburg between 2004 and 2019 .

Life

Between 1963 and 1973, Margitta Mächtig attended the Polytechnische Oberschule (POS) in Dresden, then in Kamenz and finally in Berlin-Mitte . She then took up training as a friendship pioneer with a qualification to teach mathematics and music at the central institute of the pioneer organization "Ernst Thälmann" for training and further education of the cadres in Droyzut . From 1976 to 1982 she then worked as a pioneer leader and lower level teacher, initially at a POS in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg , and later at a school for the physically handicapped in Börnicke . In addition to her work as a teacher, she was politically and organizationally responsible for the pioneering life at the school.

After a one-year course at the district school of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in Frankfurt (Oder) , she switched to the FDJ district leadership in Bernau in 1983 , where she was first an employee and then until 1987 full-time district chairman of the pioneering organization "Ernst Thälmann" in the Bernau district. In 1987 Mächtig was delegated to the trade union college "Fritz Heckert" of the Free German Trade Union Federation in Bernau, where she studied politics, philosophy, economics, Marxism-Leninism and trade union history and work, and after three years graduated in 1990 with a degree in social science.

The political change in the GDR initially ended its activities in the mass organizations of the SED state. First she worked as a waitress in a hotel in Bernau and in 1990 acquired a professional certificate for restaurateurs at the IHK Berlin (West). Afterwards Mächtig worked as a self-employed restaurateur in Bernau until 1992.

After a short period of unemployment, she began retraining as a notary's assistant in 1993 , which she successfully completed in 1995 before the Saxony Chamber of Notaries . Mächtig then found a job as managing director of the Communal Political Forum Land Brandenburg e. The party of democratic socialism (PDS) . V. Between 1998 and 2000 she completed further training as a specialist in trade fair, conference and congress management . After her election as a member of the state parliament, she continued to run the association as honorary chairwoman from 2004 to 2014.

Margitta Mächtig is married and lives in Biesenthal . She is the mother of two children. Proceedings against Mächtig for allegedly having committed an accident escape in July 2013 were discontinued in January 2015 against payment of 2000 euros.

According to her own statement, Margitta Mächtig became a member of the SED in 1977. Politically, she only appeared as a full-time functionary of the FDJ, according to her own statements. In 1993, now a member of the PDS, she moved into the Barnim district council , where she was parliamentary group leader from 1998 to 2014. Since 1998 she has also been a city ​​councilor in Biesenthal .

In the state elections in Brandenburg in 2004 , Mächtig was directly elected to the Brandenburg state parliament in the Barnim I state constituency. In the state elections in 2009 , she was able to successfully defend her direct mandate. In the 2014 state elections , she only gained her mandate through the state list.

Mächtig was a member of the Presidium of the State Parliament from 2014 to 2015. From 2004 to 2014 she was a member of the Budgetary Control Committee, since 2006 also of its subcommittee, and since 2010 its chair. She was a member of the Legal Committee from 2004 to 2009 and has been its chairman since 2014. Further memberships were in the Home Affairs Committee (2004–2005), the Committee on Budget and Finance (2008–2009), the Election Review Committee (2009–2014), the Main Committee (2014–2015) and the Committee on Home Affairs and Local Affairs (2016). She has been a member of the Petitions Committee since 2016.

In addition, she was Deputy President of the Brandenburg Parliamentary Society from 2008 to 2010 (when the Society was dissolved) .

Since 2012 she has been the deputy group leader of the DIE LINKE parliamentary group in the Brandenburg state parliament and took over chairmanship in January 2014, which she relinquished in June 2015.

She is also an honorary member of the supervisory board of the Society for Life and Health Barnim-Uckermark mbH .
