Badeborn is a district of the town of Ballenstedt in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Badeborn is 6 km north of Ballenstedt, in the eastern Harz foreland . The next larger towns are Quedlinburg in the west and Aschersleben in the east. Federal highway 6 runs north of Badeborn and federal road 185 to the south .

coat of arms

The fountain is the landmark of the place, the "Hasselborn". The place name Badeborn refers to a well, because “Borne” was the Middle Low German name for a naturally flowing spring well . An attempt to reconstruct the well was made at its original location in the center of the village.

history

The place was first mentioned in 961 in a document from King Otto II as "Bedeburn" . Badeborn is one of the oldest documented locations in the Harz and Harz foreland.

Badeborn attracted national attention with the implementation of an extraordinary betting mood in the 1980s. A private bet in 1984, the content of which was to roll a beer keg filled with water for a limited period of time, from the neighboring town of Hoym to Badeborn, has over time become a fixed and annual item in the calendar of events with a true folk festival character.

Of the very numerous inns from the 19th and early 20th centuries, only the “Lammchen” in the center of the village has survived. Another gastronomic facility, which was only created after the political change in 1989, is the restaurant "Zum Schimmel" in the Oberdorf directly on the main street.

On August 4, 2002, the village became part of the city of Ballenstedt as part of the regional reforms.

Culture

There are two associations and several private interest groups in the village that do various cultural work. Several times a year they organize official festivals in town, some of which are known nationwide and attract numerous visitors. These include the rifle and homeland festival of the local rifle club and, for some years now, the increasingly popular "classic car exhibition" of the classic car friends Badeborn. Both events are held in the summer months.

At the exit of the village in the direction of Quedlinburg is the village's “culture house”, which was built by the LPG during the GDR times and is used for local and rifle festivals, as well as for private parties. A small restaurant called the “Bauernstube” is integrated into the cultural center.

Local clubs are the soccer club “Schwarz-Weiß Badeborn”, the “Schützenverein, 1895 e. V. Badeborn ”and the bowling club KSV 1954 Badeborn eV Private interest groups are u. a. the "Photo and Film Club Badeborn" and the "Oldtimerfreunde Badeborn". With almost fifty members, the Rassegeflügelzuchtverein eV is a fairly large, active association. The association is also known among experts beyond the Harz district border, not least because of the participation of some members in the annual Lipziaschau in Leipzig.
