Michael Schäfer (politician, 1982)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Schäfer (born September 30, 1982 in Wernigerode ) is a former German politician . He was a member of the CDU and the right-wing extremist NPD . From October 2007 to October 2012 he was national chairman of the NPD youth association Young National Democrats (JN) and a member of the militant comradeship of the Wernigeroder Action Front . Schäfer's name also appeared on a list of members of the German Ku Klux Klan , the European White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan . Schäfer publicly denied membership in the Ku Klux Klan and in this connection obtained a cease and desist declaration against the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung on account of false claims. He is also a member of the Halle-Leoben fraternity Germania.

Political career

Schäfer was a member of the CDU and studied political science at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . He completed his studies with a Magister Artium (MA). After his transfer to the NPD, he sat as a non-attached member of the city council of Wernigerode and was chairman of the NPD parliamentary group in the Harz district council . With the municipal elections in Saxony-Anhalt in 2014, Schäfer resigned from both positions. He ran unsuccessfully on the state list of the NPD and as a direct candidate for the NPD for the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .

In October 2007, Schäfer was elected federal chairman of the JN. In December of the same year he announced an intensification of educational work and the establishment of a national educational group (NBK) . With these steps, Schäfer wanted to make the NPD university organization National Democratic University Association superfluous. During his tenure, the federal leadership of the JN tried to expand the organization further. He himself emphasized the independence of the JN from the NPD; but this was also postponed for state elections. Above all, he sought to work with “free forces”. In 2009 he was noticed, among other things, by a particularly aggressive choice of words at a demonstration by around 1,350 right-wing extremists in Leipzig .

Schäfer's term of office ended with the election of his former deputy, Andy Knape , as the new federal chairman in October 2012.

According to a statement from June 2015, he is no longer a member of a political party. In 2017 he worked as a speaker for the Desiderius Erasmus Foundation of the AfD .

In July 2018, the AfD member of the Bundestag Frank Pasemann organized an event in the rooms of the German Bundestag through his parliamentary office with Philip Stein as a speaker. The topic of the event, entitled “Left support structures and the new 'fight against the law'”, was “the various, abuse-prone federal support programs” to curb right-wing radicalism and “parliamentary counter-strategies” to defend against those support programs. Philip Stein brought along two of his opinion experts, the former neo-Nazi cadres Michael Schäfer and Julian Monaco , whom Frank Pasemann described as invited friends in his speech. All MPs of the party and their employees were invited to the event on the topic.
